We get a lot of FAQ's
Is application method important?
Yes. Oil based chain lubes can freely be applied to already-oiled or wet chains, but this isn't the case with wax based lubes. Particularly to get the best out of SMOOVE, you must first degrease and thoroughly clean your chain. Then allow it to dry thoroughly...this means inside the pins and plates, not just dry to the touch. Only then, can you follow the application method to get long lasting, clean miles.
How do I apply SMOOVE Lube?
Step 1:
Thoroughly clean your chain with a good quality degreaser such as Smoove™ Prep Chain Cleaner. Rinse and let it dry completely. A new chain should also be cleaned to remove any oil or residue from the manufacturing process.
We can't emphasise enough the need to apply SMOOVE to a CLEAN and THOROUGHLY DRY chain.
Step 2:
Apply to a spotlessly clean chain that is thoroughly dry...see, we mean it. Any moisture on the chain will prevent Smoove™ from adhering to the metal.
Step 3:
Apply in a constant flow onto the rollers while slowly back-pedaling until coated and spanning every other link. Work Smoove™ into the chain while continuing to back pedal ±10 times. If Smoove spans EVERY link, then you have over-applied. Don't worry, you'll just have to clean off excess wax from your pullies once dried.
Step 4:
Leave to dry/set for at least an hour in mild conditions or significantly longer in cool temperatures, preferably overnight. In the UK, during wet weather, ensure your bike is stored in a dry non-damp environment while allowing Smoove to dry.
Step 5:
Do not reapply or top-up until audibly required to do so – even after a wet ride or light wash. Smoove™ lasts significantly longer than you think! Excessive application may result in build-up around jockey wheels and chainring. Fight that instinctive urge to reapply.
It's not working as well as you promised. What am I doing wrong?
Smoove really is as good as the reviews state and we tell you it is. If you're not seeing long life from your Smoove, then we're confident there is a flaw in your application method. In almost every case, your chain still retains moisture from washing.
This sounds like higher maintenance,
A little extra care during the preparation phase, means less drivetrain maintenance overall. Smoove stops your chain and cassette getting gunked up and makes them last much longer than if you were using poor quality oil-based lubes like M*c-O*f. Sorry, but it's true.
Do I have to use Smoove Prep?
No. But it makes life easier. No other chain degreaser removes old lube (especially the hard-wearing Smoove Lube) as easily, quickly and effectively as Prep. But another citrus-based degreaser will also do the job...just with a little more elbow grease.
Can I thaw Smoove Lube out, after it's frozen?
No. Ensure you store Smoove above 5 degrees centigrade. Once frozen, Smoove becomes a paste and will not return to liquid.
My bottle has clogged up, what did I do wrong?
Smoove passes through a small hole, which can become clogged over time if the lid isn't fastened tight (the lid has a pin which helps keep the hole clear). Though as Smoove lasts SO LONG, it can clog in any case. Simply push a pin through the exit hole and you'll have many months happy flow again.
Where can I buy a bottle?
At any one of our dealers or HERE.
